Amphitheatre Backpackers Lodge
The lodge takes its name from “The Amphitheatre," the most famous geographic feature of the Northern Drakensberg, South Africa. The Amphitheatre is widely regarded as one of the most impressive cliff faces on earth. The lodge looks directly onto its facade and on a clear day, after the rains, the Tugela Falls can be seen as it plunges 1km down the ancient rock face.
Area Info
We are located in the Northern Drakensberg - home to the highest waterfall in Africa, largest consolidation of cave paintings in the world, biggest indigenous forest in the berg and access to Lesotho - the highest country in the world. Activities include rock climbing, abseiling, summiting mountains (with knee tingling chain ladders) or for those who prefer to chill -visiting historical battlefields, exploring Lesotho or wandering down to our dams and river to see how many birds and mammals you can spot.
