Between June and December, large numbers of Southern Right whales visit Walker Bay. Adults and calves can be sighted from the many viewing points along the Hermanus cliff paths.
The Hermanus region has the richest floral diversity in Africa and is regarded as the heart of the fynbos, the smallest of the six floral kingdoms in the world.
