Fourfields Hogsback

Fourfields Hogsback is the highest residence in altitude in Hogsback on which the self-catering cottage is situated. Being the highest property in Hogsback, Fourfields normally experiences snow first. This previously only private residence has now opened its first luxury accommodation cottage on the secluded 2,4-hectare piece of land, situated 4.2km from central Hogsback. The Cottage is a luxury self-catering home away from home. Fourfields Cottage has been built, using part of an existing building, with additions and a complete renovation, taking into account the light from the site. Our goal was to create luxury modern minimalistic accommodation set on the highest residence in Hogsback, previously not accessible to visitors. The finishes are a mix of styles, used to create a unique interior that is welcoming and relaxing. Exposed log beams, Italian style stucco plaster, screeded floors, executive roller blinds in living areas, custom kitchen cabinetry, modern bathroom fixtures are all part of our mix of interior touches used to reflect style and quality.

Area Info

Romance and a fairytale quality await travellers that plan to find overnight accommodation in Hogsback, just three hours from Port Elizabeth. On the western end of the forested Amatola Mountains lies a village, overlooked by mountains and surrounded by indigenous Afro-montane forests that are centuries old, called Hogsback. It lies only an hour-and-a-half’s journey from Grahamstown, yet Hogsback may as well be in another world.

The beauty of the surrounds is said to have inspired J.R.R Tolkein to write his Lord of the Rings trilogy, so you can imagine the dramatic splendour of the place. Hogsback is named after three mountain peaks, which look something like the wild hogs that frequent the forest, and trails through the forest are marked with hogs of different colours to denote various walks.

The peace and quiet of the little village of Hogsback, the lower regions of which sometimes lie encased in snow during winter, are broken only by the intermittent call of the Knysna Lourie and the chatter of Samango monkeys; and if the forests don’t tempt you, the gardens of Hogsback will.
