Pudimoe or Pudumong, a town in the North West province, located 17 km from Taung. Taung is a picturesque town that shot to fame when a crucial link in the scientific ascent of man was found. The Taung Skull was dug up in the nearby Buxton quarries in 1924. Taung is named after Tau, the chief of the Legoya or Bataung people and the town’s name means “place of the lion”. The Taung Child Skull was found at fossil sites in caves formed by gigantic tufa flow coming off the dolomite bedrock.
Taung has many fun-filled and interesting outdoor activities available. The Blue Pools is one of the attractive sights in this town that should not be missed. This beautiful valley full of streams and pools also offers tourists the chance to explore an old mine tunnel.
