Situated in the 22 000-hectare Greater Makalali Private Game Reserve, Garonga's philosophy is to offer a distinct, unhurried, and intimate wildlife encounter, allowing you the time to reflect and find inspiration in nature. Garonga Safari Co. offers guests luxury en-suite tents that are ideally positioned in this exquisite safari landscape, sculpted out of rough-plastered walls and overarching canvas tents. The tents are light, airy, and spacious with large, draped beds and indoor/outdoor showers. Overlooking the dry riverbed, the wooden deck, complete with a hammock, commands spectacular views. Inspired by nature’s impressive termite mounds, Little Garonga is an intimate, exclusive extension of Garonga Safari Co. This luxury and private lodge boasts three individual thatched suites, Hamleden and Little Garonga, and is ideally placed in a Big 5 reserve with magnificent views of the surrounding bush landscape. Ideal for small groups or families to absorb the smaller niceties of the nearby animal and bush landscape, the lodge echoes the surroundings of the bush's textured earthy colours by incorporating simplistic lines into every fine detail with only pure high-quality linen to ensure an indulgent and enticing stay. The well-appointed thatched suites, each with expansive full-en-suite bathrooms including an indoor and outdoor shower as well as a private deck with an inviting hammock to relish in the surrounding beauty. All suites are situated around a centralised, communal indoor and outdoor lounge area, a swimming pool, and a built-in braai/BBQ area. For the ultimate comfortable stay, we have included amenities such as air conditioning, minibars, bathrobes and slippers, luxury bathroom amenities, a hairdryer, and room safes. The lodge also has its own host, chef, waiter, and housekeeper, so it is totally self-contained and run separately from the Safari Camp. MCH Private Safari Camp is designed primarily as a private, exclusive camp but can also be used by couples. Any number of guests can book the camp exclusively, up to a maximum of 8 guests. The lovely en-suite tents consist of three layers of membrane, including an inner membrane to keep the tent cool in peak summers, and can accommodate up to two guests. Furnished with a king-size or twin bed, the tents feature air conditioning, a lounge/seating area, Wi-Fi, a hairdryer, a safe, a minibar, and indoor and outdoor showers with a separate bath, half of which is inside and the other half outside. Please note MCH Private Safari Camp is not wheelchair-friendly, and children from the age of 8 and up are permitted. A proudly fully solar-powered and self-contained camp, MCH has its own team of staff, game drive vehicle, and guide for an exclusive Big 5 safari. A private Sleep Out Deck experience awaits the adventurous too. The main camp offers indoor and outdoor dining areas, along with the MCH Bush Boma and firepit designed to pair with delicious pre-dinner drinks. After the morning and evening safari activities, you can laze by the pool, be pampered at the MCH Massage Sala or snuggle up with a good book by the library fireplace. For those who can't leave the office behind, the library is equipped with WiFi, a working desk with a computer and a photocopier. Named to honour the owner’s mother, Maria Carmel Hambleden, MCH stands discretely on a hill overlooking the wild Makalali Game Reserve, with the Drakensberg in the distance. This private nature reserve boasts the Big 5, which guests can experience up close on our exhilarating morning and afternoon game drives—the heart of the Garonga experience. You can either try your hand at every activity we have on offer, or you can do simply nothing at all, lazing in the hammock with a good book while watching the grazing impala.
