Area Info

The Dinokeng Game Reserve, located near Cullinan in South Africa, offers a unique opportunity to experience the wild in a beautifully restored natural environment. The name "Dinokeng," which translates to "place of two rivers" (referring to the Elands and Pienaars rivers), captures the essence of this stunning region. Established in 2011, the reserve spans 18,500 hectares of former farmland, now transformed into a haven for a diverse range of wildlife.

A major highlight of Dinokeng is the opportunity to see free-roaming lions and elephants, a remarkable feat given that these animals have not roamed the Tshwane Metro for over a century. In addition to these iconic species, visitors can spot white rhinos, hyenas, giraffes, leopards, buffalo, and more.

The reserve offers various accommodations, from game lodges to farm stays, bush camps, and chalets, ensuring a comfortable and immersive experience. Visitors can enjoy day and night game drives, sunset boat cruises, guided bush walks, bush lunch picnics, bass fishing, and thrilling game viewing.

A key aspect of the reserve’s operation is the collaboration between private landowners and the government. Landowners have integrated their properties into the reserve, benefiting from the tourism infrastructure funded by the government, which has led to the development of a variety of accommodations and activities.

To make the most of a visit, it is recommended to book a game drive in advance, as they tend to fill up quickly, and self-driving is not permitted within the reserve. This combination of accessible luxury and pristine wilderness makes Dinokeng a standout destination for wildlife enthusiasts.
