*The KhoiSan Karoo Conservancy (8,000 ha), for the Karoo Hippo, is between Colesberg and Hanover. We are 8 km off the N1 highway and perfectly situated between Cape Town and Johannesburg, Upington (Kalahari) and PE or the Garden Route. This makes us the perfect halfway point in South Africa. We pay special attention to nature and the outdoors. You can explore the central Karoo using us as a base. We have the Seekooi (Hippo) Valley Meander which connects New Bethesda to Hanover and Colesberg by dirt road. These roads can be enjoyed by car as well as on mountain bikes *Visit Orania and the Van Der Kloof Dam. Go to see a Suricate Colony responding to the farmers' calls (A suricate or meerkat is a small mongoose found in Southern Africa). Local tours and activities are listed on our website and we all work together in communal accord. Our onsite activities include early morning birding drives, walks, horse riding, clear skies and bright stars for stargazing from our star deck, hippo drives, KhoiSan etchings, mountain bike trails, a swimming pool and more There are three lodges, a log cabin and a tented camp at KhoiSan Karoo Conservancy to choose from. Mieliefontein, with Ian and Elma, New Holme with P.C. and Marisca, Wolmade our Self Catering Lodge, managed by Elma, Stoffels Rus Self Catering Log Cabin and Karoo Gariep Tented Camp New Holme and Mieliefontein are 4-star establishments and a pleasure to stay in. We offer good "plaas kos" (farm food) 3-course dinners. The meals are an experience and are highly recommended.
