Kieriebos Guest Farm

Kieriebos is a very special three-unit haven set completely apart for you in the African bush. You won’t find a better-equipped private getaway, or a more spectacular African bushveld view anywhere! One of Kieriebos’ outstanding features is a covered outside deck, hanging over the side of the koppie and providing an unparalleled 180-degree view of the magnificent bushveld koppies and the African sunset. Watching the molten sun dip gently down while you’re sitting on the planet’s most comfortable armchairs on the deck and listening to the insects of the African bush, is an unforgettable experience. What makes Kieriebos distinctive is the loving attention to cleanliness and detail evidenced throughout the property. Each unit is elegant and inviting, with fresh white linen, stylish décor and comfort elements like appetising rusks on arrival, thick, absorbent bath towels and marvellous steaming hot water for your showers and baths. Each item in the units has been carefully chosen to reflect refinement, serenity and functionality. As a result, guests feel cocooned in an environment of warmth, restfulness and beauty. Among all its other treasures, Kieriebos also offers a fantastic, large fire pit surrounded by plenty of seating; an enchanting swing-bench with a view; a large 13-seater table for al fresco dining; and a stylish plunge pool for those hot bushveld afternoons. If you enjoy socialising, you’ll love having a social braai on the deck, overlooking the magnificent bushveld view. The deck features a braai unit, and there are twinkling lights that can be switched on for those starry-skied evening braais. Or spend hours around the large firepit, chatting, cooking your supper and then enjoying braaied marshmallows. There are two covered carports for vehicles, and enough general parking space for 6 cars.

Area Info

Kieriebos is located on land that is part of the Deelfontein farm, owned by the Greeff brothers. This farm has a lot of sentimental value to the Greeff family. Our great grandparents moved to the Free State from Oudtshoorn in the late 1800s. Our guest farm is named Kieriebos after the local name of Ehretia Rigida, a small-stemmed tree with tangled growth habit belonging to the Boraginaceae (borage) family. The tree, which you’ll see on the koppies surrounding the guest farm, is also called the Deurmekaarbos. Previous generations used to cut their “kieries” from this tree, hence its quaint local name.

Kieriebos is part of the Vredefort Dome. More than 2 000 million years ago a meteorite smashed into the southern part of the African continent and created an impact crater hundreds of square kilometres in size. This spatial particle has been estimated to be about 15 kilometres in diameter, or the size of Table Mountain in Cape Town. Over the millions of years since this crater landed on earth, some of its rim hills have essentially disappeared from erosion. Just a few of the hills are still visible. The Vredefort Dome is the oldest and largest impact crater known on earth and is the only one visible from space. Kieriebos is situated on the first part of the crater’s rim.
