King's Grant Country Retreat
For over one hundred years King's Grant was run by the resident Dutch & German Brothers & Sisters of Mariannhill as the St Isidor Mission and Millworks. Originally built by German Trappist Monks in 1891, the ancient red brick buildings have been restored and converted into an enchanting country guest lodge with Bed & Breakfast as well as self-catering rooms accommodating 24 - 26 guests.
Area Info
Ixopo is a farming district with mostly dairy, beef and timber farming taking place. It has warm to hot summers and cool frosty winters. It is well situated at the intersection of the R56 & R612 and is only one hour's drive inland from the beaches of Scottburgh on the South Coast, one hour's drive from Underberg in the Drakensberg and one hour's drive to Pietermaritzburg. The Carisbrooke Valley was made famous by Alan Paton who wrote his book 'Cry the Beloved Country' whilst teaching at Ixopo High School.
