Morgansvlei Country Estate
When the first settlers arrived in the Cape, Tulbagh was called ‘The Land of Waveren’. It was only in 1806 that it was renamed Tulbagh. In 1710 Morgansvlei estate was originally named Straatskerk and was leased to Jannetjie de Clerq. The current Governor of the Cape of Good Hope had leased it as one of the first five farms in the Tulbagh region. Once the Morgan family took ownership of the farm, they restored it to its pristine beauty and began running a wine business from there. To this day it is a working estate and well worth a visit to find relaxation in the farmlands and walks through the orchards and vineyards on the property. Morgansvlei is a stylish and romantic retreat for single-night getaways to 3-day weddings situated in historic Tulbagh Valley, only 75 minutes from Cape Town. Accommodation at Morgansvlei is of a high standard with superior linen. Guests can enjoy stunning views of the dam, mountains, and vineyards as well as a spacious swimming pool, covered braai (barbecue), and entertainment area.
