Oak View Manor

The town of Heidelberg, of the same name as the town in Germany, lies just off the N3 highway, roughly 50km outside of Johannesburg at the foot of the Suikerbosrand.
What began as a trading store built on a farm out here called Langlaagte, is today a rather big town probably best known for the role it played in the Anglo-Boer war. History tours can be arranged from Oak View Manor (built by Dr Nixon of the Manchester Infantry in 1917), as well as a free 5km walk on Silver Oaks Farm (Discovery Park Run trail) just 8km away. Visit a handful of great coffee shops, great-value restaurants, interesting antique/gift stores, and a bargain-hunt pawnshop.
