Old Mill Lodge

The Old Mill Lodge is centrally situated in Springbok, the capital of Namaqualand, and is the ideal stopover between Cape Town and Namibia, or a convenient base for those visiting Namaqualand’s annual flowers. We offer beautifully appointed spacious suites, luxuriously furnished with an Old World charm. Every effort is made to ensure that guests at Old Mill Lodge have a pleasant and memorable experience. Each spacious suite has been individually decorated and named after the spring flowers which paint the landscapes in a floral carpet seasonally. With exceptional attention given to every detail, the sumptuous retreats epitomize elegance and are further enhanced by lavish en-suite bathrooms, deluxe linen, sumptuous down duvets, electric blankets, hospitality trays, and Rooibos bathroom essentials. A delicious farm-style breakfast is served each morning in the dining room, and dinner is available by request. An honesty bar is available at reception. The lodge has a lovely outdoor area with seating and a tranquil garden setting as well as a plunge pool and braai facilities. Safe off-street parking is available.

Area Info

The picturesque town of Springbok in the Northern Cape nestles in a deep plain between the rugged granite Kopper Mountain and is the commercial and cultural hub of Namaqualand. Customised day trips and seasonal flower tours can be arranged in advance by contacting Old Mill Lodge early. There are a number of fabulous restaurants in Springbok.

The Goegap Nature Reserve is about 15 km south-east of Springbok and consists of typical Namaqualand vegetation and incorporates the Hester Malan Wild Flower Garden. The reserve is transformed into a mosaic of multicoloured wild flowers for a few weeks each year after the rains. The semi-desert reserve is noted for indigenous flora and fauna, particularly succulents, some species of which are found nowhere else in the world.

The numerous mammal species found here include springbok, gemsbok, mountain zebra and a variety of small mammals, while 94 bird species have been recorded.

The Hester Malan Wild Flower Garden comprises an exhibition of Namaqualand succulents and a rock garden. There are horse trails, three hiking trails, two mountain bike trails and a variety of 4x4 routes through the reserve. Facilities include an information centre and picnic sites but no overnight accommodation is provided.
