Schaefers' Halt

Take a step back into a bygone era with a stay at Schaefers' Halt historic cottages, a self-catering stay for stressed city dwellers looking for an authentic country experience. The property is located in the Dullstroom countryside, midway between Lydenburg and Dullstroom, and is a nature lovers' retreat that offers country accommodation in four cottages on the farm. At Schaefers’ Halt close to Dullstroom, there are four country cottages, aptly named The Snug which sleeps 2, and The Cosy, Cloud Cottage and Wind Song which each sleeps 4. Set in beautiful gardens or on a hillside with magnificent views of the mountains, each self-catering cottage is different, yet all are enchanting. The verandahs, the thick walls, the open fireplaces, the furnishings, as well as the Persian rugs on terracotta or concrete floors, are all reminiscent of a past era. Bed linen is of good quality and the gardens are extra-ordinary. Each cottage has a private verandah with seating and a kettle barbecue and encompasses breathtaking views over the foothills of the Steenkampsberg mountain range. All cottages have an ‘outage’ backup in the form of torches, paraffin and LED lamps, candles, gas cookers, and kettles- also reminiscent of a past era. Schaefers’ Halt's historic atmosphere, personal touches, and many little extras offer a memorable and affordable breakaway experience.
