Schoone Oordt Country House
There is something quite magical about this striking Victorian Manor House. She has been lovingly restored over many years by Richard and Alison Walker and is passionately owner managed and run. As a result, she has been instilled with charm and grace and she adores welcoming guests. Her extensive grounds house eight luxury rooms, a quaint, private family cottage, a sunny, spacious family suite and a romantic and secluded honeymoon suite set in abundant gardens and sheltered by aged oak trees. Each luxury accommodation has conceded to every modern convenience whilst unique, restored (mostly by Richard) antiques, retain the Victorian feel of the manor house and a bygone era. The manor house itself boasts the most exquisite light and airy conservatory, which Richard built in true English style, a cosy fire-lit bar and lounge, an intimate dining room and a typical country kitchen. The warmth of the original wooden floors, ceilings and doors coupled with many quirky antique pieces creates a wonderful welcoming ambience and guests are encouraged to ‘kuier’ here. Swellendam is steeped in history, architecture, nature, adventure, food and wine and is the perfect stopover on the way to or from the Garden Route. For those explorative travellers, it is a destination unto itself with enough to keep busy for at least 3 days. For a diverse view of the countryside, we recommend Cape Town, Swellendam, over the Tradouws Pass to Barrydale, Oudtshoorn and then down the Outeniqua Pass to George, Knysna. If travelling back to Cape Town, a quick stop in Hermanus is a must.

The Honeymoon Suite is unashamedly romantic with its large hearth, exquisitely carved four-poster bed and oversized bathroom. It is tucked away on the edge of a shady forest with the Koornlands River, gurgling along its perimeter.

The Family Suite is a spacious two-bedroom suite that sleeps 2 adults in an oversized king bed, and up to 4 children in beautiful sturdy bunk beds, with enough room for a cot (pre-booked). It has a private patio area overlooking the circular lawn.

The Family Cottage is at the top end of the property, private, cosy and set apart from other guests. It has 2 extra-length single beds in an upstairs loft area accessible by some stairs and an extra-length king-size bed for parents downstairs.
