Secunda is largely an industrial area, built around coalfields in Mpumalanga, South Africa. It was named so, for being the second extraction refinery location for oil from coal (second to the Sasolburg refinery).
It is situated 137,5 km from Johannesburg and a mere 1h 47 min drive by car, although you can easily reach Secunda by Greyhound bus which will drop you in Evander, about 8 km from Secunda. The bus operates once daily between Johannesburg and Evander and travel is cheap and comfortable.
Secunda lies 1619m above sea level. the climate is warm and temperate. In winter, there is much less rainfall than in summer.
