Sedgefield Lodge

Sedgefield Lodge is situated in a secure private game estate outside Emalahleni, on the banks of the Olifants River. The estate is home to various game, including a variety of buck, zebra, giraffe, eland and wildebeest. The property is ideally located right on the water, where guests can enjoy private water frontage and lovely views. It is one of the best bass and carp fishing dams in the country. Accommodation is provided in a 2-bedroom unit - The West Wing and the other unit, The Boathouse, can accommodate 8 adults two of which are on a sleeper couch. The 2-bedroom unit accommodates 4 adults. The first bedroom contains a king-size bed and the second bedroom contains a queen bed and a bed for a child. The main bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with a bath and shower. This bathroom is shared between the 2 bedrooms. There is also a small kitchenette off the bedroom, equipped with a 2-plate stove and oven, a microwave, a fridge, kettle, toaster and a breakfast bar with 2 stools. Crockery and cutlery is also supplied. There is a small lounge and a 6 seater dining table. There is a large patio with a built-in braai and 10 seater table. The Boathouse comprises 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 lounge areas, a dining area and a well-equipped kitchen. The first lounge area has a sleeper couch and views over the water. The second lounge is furnished with comfortable seating and has a TV. The dining area has an 8-seater dining room table. The kitchen is equipped with a stove, a fridge-freezer, a kettle, toaster, crockery and cutlery. There are a number of other small appliances supplied like a steamer and egg boiler. There is a private balcony upstairs and a spacious patio with a weber and 10 seater table downstairs. There is direct access to the water with a fire pit and lapa for guests use. The dam is a fisherman’s paradise, with an abundance of carp, bass and barbel. There is a very little traffic on the dam, making it ideal for water sports. Guests can enjoy many walking and cycling routes from the property. The birdlife is prolific and will satisfy any birdwatcher's dreams.

Area Info

Witbank means “white ridge” in Afrikaans. In 2006 Witbank was officially renamed eMalahleni which means ‘place of coal’ in Zulu.

The farmland surrounding the city is being bought out by investors, coal mining companies, and real estate developers to accommodate the rapid development of the city.


Visitors traveling from Kruger Park to Johannesburg, and vice versa, find Witbank to be a convenient stop on the route and as a result, there is a range of tourist accommodation, including a number of hotels and many guest houses.
