Area Info
Polokwane, the capital of Limpopo (formerly Pietersburg), is a vibrant cultural centre situated halfway between Pretoria and Zimbabwe. This welcoming city boasts broad avenues, verdant spaces, and a breathtaking spectacle of blooming jacaranda and coral trees in spring.
As a natural stop along the Great North Road, Polokwane is a frequent point of passage for those heading to Kruger National Park and Magoebaskloof. Far from being just a transit point, it offers a refreshing interlude before continuing your journey.
Polokwane's attractions extend beyond its role as a 2010 World Cup host. Explore the Bakone Malapa Northern Sotho Open-Air Museum for a glimpse into traditional life, or visit the Polokwane Game Reserve, a short drive south, for nature walks and wildlife viewing.
Delve into the city's history at the Hugh Exton Photographic Museum, home to a remarkable collection of early glass plate negatives. The art gallery in the Central Library Gardens and the convenient Savannah Centre provide further opportunities for exploration and relaxation.
