Sneeuberg Nature Reserve
Sneeuberg Nature Reserve, a 14 500 hectare wildlife reserve, is situated in the heart of the Great Karoo between Graaff-Reinet and Nieu-Bethesda. Sneeuberg Nature Reserve is part of the Compassberg Protected Environment and home to a variety of antelope species, many other wildlife and Nguni. We are located at an altitude of approximately 1750 meters and therefore have a unique climate. Although there are warm days, it always cools down in the evening and in winter we regularly have snow. The mountains are an important catchment area for water. There are no predators, so it is safe to walk, jog and cycle through the reserve enjoying the landscape and wildlife. Sneeuberg provides an authentic Karoo experience offering 4 self-catering accommodation options for our guests. Note that only The Poplars Farm and Karoo Cottage are on the same werf. Self Drives
Enjoy being surrounded by expansive landscapes on the 14 500 hectare reserve. Experience nature seclusion by taking your own 4x4 vehicle and traverse the winding dirt tracks yourself.
Biking and hiking/walking
For those who would rather take on the great outdoors by foot or bike, we offer a variety of mountain, riverine and long, flat, scenic tracks. Choose your adventure at Sneeuberg Nature Reserve and afterwards, enjoy a warm, hearty Karoo meal from the Gordonville kitchen.
Spend time around a fireplace – Karoo-style
If you’ve ever been to the Karoo, you will know those crisp, clear, starry nights – unhindered by artificial light or sounds. It is on those beautiful nights that one can sit for hours around a crackling fire with only the sound of distant nocturnal calls breaking the silence to remind you where you are. This is the magic of the Karoo and a very important part of the Sneeuberg experience.
