Birdlife is abundant, so bring along your binoculars and you could well be rewarded with some wonderful sightings.

St Lucia, about 240 kilometres from Durban in northern KwaZulu-Natal, forms part of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park and it is the largest estuarine system in Africa which homes the highest concentrations of hippos and crocodiles in southern Africa. Isolated from the mainland by an estuary channel - one can thus almost describe it as an island. What also makes this area magnificent is that the park is South Africa’s first World Heritage Site and includes nine per cent of the country’s coastline.

Be sure to have your camera ready – not just for the beautiful beaches, African bush, tranquillity, lush coastal forests, warm ocean waters, dunes, savannas, wetlands and spectacular sunsets over the lake. St Lucia also homes leatherback turtles laying eggs (in summer), and when in season, it is also home to nesting grounds of Whales and Dolphins offshore. It has extensive game and over 500 species of birdlife. The Big Five is in close proximity to us, as Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve is only an hour’s drive from us.
In St. Lucia you can find everything you need within walking distance. The town has two well-stocked supermarkets, a dozen restaurants, Internet cafe, two banks, three ATM's, two fuel stations, several fishing tackle shops, a hardware store, a hairdresser, a variety of curio shops and sellers, a popular fruit and craft market, a post office and even a library, amongst other services.
