The Tsitsikamma Section of the Garden Route National Park, established in 1964, spans over 80 km of coastline and is home to one of the world's largest Marine Protected Areas (MPA), conserving 11% of South Africa’s Temperate South Coast rocky shoreline and serving as a research site for endangered fish species.
Tsitsikamma, a Khoi word meaning "place of abundant or sparkling water," stretches from the Bloukrans River in the west to the Tsitsikamma River in the east, sitting on a 200m high plateau bordered by the imposing Tsitsikamma Mountains to the north and the Indian Ocean to the south.
Known for its rich biodiversity, the park features ecosystems such as Mountain Fynbos, Coastal Fynbos, Afro-montane Forest, and marine habitats. The scenic Storms River Mouth rest camp offers magnificent views, a small beach, hiking trails, a restaurant, and the famous Storms River Suspension Bridge, a popular attraction.
