Area Info

Velddrif is a busy fishing village located at the mouth of the Berg River. It is quite normal to see fishing boats filled with mackrel, pilchards, anchovies and rock lobsters sailing up the river.
As Velddrif lies just 2km away from the Berg River, which washes out in to the nearby St Helena Bay, the village is renowned for its water sports namely surfing, swimming, and boating; fishing is also a popular pastime here and lures many avid anglers who really revel in fishing in these tranquil surroundings.
The original site of Velddrif was the fording place across the river. It has now been replaced with a bridge and the shallows are a natural habitat for flamingos, spoonbills, avocets and even the glossy ibis can be found here.
