Three Birds Country House
Located in the quiet town of Richmond in the Northern Cape, Three Birds Country House is a haven in the Upper Karoo. Richmond is situated on the N1, about halfway between Johannesburg and Cape Town, making Three Birds an ideal overnight destination for weary travellers, families, romantic getaways and explorers travelling the Karoo. At Three Birds Country House we offer spacious luxury suites and family rooms. Each room is equipped with an en-suite bathroom, a plasma TV with certain DStv channels and Netflix options to login, a coffee machine and tea facilities. The beds are dressed with cotton linen, down duvets and hypoallergenic pillows. Cotton towels and complimentary toiletries are provided to visitors. All our rooms have air-conditioning and electric blankets to ensure comfort during any season. Three of our rooms have access to the courtyard – ideal for visitors with pets, or for those who prefer to enjoy the Karoo sun and night sky in privacy. The shared Living Room, close to the foyer, is a warm and comfortable space where guests can sink into sofas, relax and unwind. The communal Pool Room is equipped with a kitchen, a dining room with a table, as well as a comfortable living room with sofas and a plasma TV with certain DStv channels. Three Birds offers free Wi-Fi and safe parking and breakfast and dinner is available on request. On request, guests are also welcome to bring along their pets.

Richmond is situated on the N1, about halfway between Johannesburg and Cape Town.
Richmond was established in 1843 to meet the religious needs of the local farming community. It was occupied by the British, and was attacked by the Boers twice during the Anglo-Boer War. The town was named after the Duke of Richmond in 1845. The duke was the father-in-law of the then-governor of the Cape, Sir Peregrine Maitland, after Maitland declined that the town be named after him.
