Tzaneen is the capital of the Letaba District east of Polokwane. It comprises the valley of the Letaba River and the Magoebaskloof mountains. The climate of the Letaba District is subtropical, the soil particularly fertile and the rainfalls are high
The region is intensively used for the production of subtropical fruit. Especially mangos, litchis, avocados, kiwis, tomatoes, bananas, citrus, pecan and macadamia nuts as well as papayas. Tzaneen is the second biggest town in the Limpopo Province
