Area Info
We are in the area of Wolseley and well placed between Tulbagh, 20km away and Ceres , 10 Km in the other direction, they have much to offer.
To arrive at Wolseley you have to traverse one of 4 spectacular and
historical mountain passes. These passes are steeped in history and what is
now the Nuwekloof pass was first pioneered in 1750. The wagon trail through
Michells Pass followed in 1765 and Bainskloof was built in 1853. It was in
1940 it was decided that the new national road should go through Du Toits
Kloof rather than Bains Kloof.
No matter which route you choose, you will be rewarded by spectacular
mountain views and river gorges and beautiful cape flora. Wolseley stands
at the foot of the spectacular Mostertshoek mountain with its twin peaks
that can be clearly seen from Newlands Cricket ground. If you stand on top
of this mountain on a clear day, you can clearly see the shoreline of Table
Bay Harbour.
Our mountains are not only a haven for cyclists, and outdoor extremists, but
the well-known Witels hike brings guests year after year in the summer
season to enjoy this paradise. There are a huge number of bird for enthusiasts and there are many good wineries in the area to visit for lovers of the grapes.
Wolseley is noted for being situated on a watershed, meaning that rain falling on our mountains can flow one way into the Berg river and towards the West coast or into the Breede and out towards the South East coast.
